  I had heard from a T-1 Bud who went to the retirement event at RND that the T-1 is gone from all UPT bases (not counting the CSO training) 

A few old friends don’t beleive this is the case.

UCT is shutting down too, from what I heard. DLF loses all tails by the end of the CY. AMP jets at Vance and Columbus may be gone as soon as May 2025, or they maybe funded through 2026. AMF-S will be done sometime in FY 25, no actual date announced yet, but speculation is the last class will graduate in Dec 24 or Jan 25. AFF at Randolph is still a thing for now. 19AF/AETC can’t be bothered to announce their actual plans.

What are AMP jets?

Avionics Modernization Program. Vance and Columbus fly them. Replaced the traditional displays with MFDs. Total waste of money, it made the aircraft ADS-B out compliant, and added the ability for LPV minimums.

So how much are T-1s going to be sold for? If I could pick up an AMP'd one for cheap... 30+ years of student training probably means heavy maintenance costs but...?

They’re mostly being sent to AMARG. Some were sold to use for crash fire rescue training, and I heard California DOC wanted to buy some for prisoner transport.

FWIW, I have T-1A pilot training dates at Columbus May 25 - Jan 26. I hope this program doesn’t get cut before then.

XPW? Maybe, but I’m hearing all tails will be divested by May/June. AMF-F is done, and everyone expects AMF-S to be gone by January.

BTW, what is AFF at Randolph?  

We have the great 19th CC for this entire debacle. Many said this wasn’t the way to go. I can speak for some mad units the products we are getting are putting more work on the ops units now. The ftu’s are passing on the buck.

And now they announced -38 studs are going to start dropping heavies because the FTUs are too backed up. You know what plane was cheaper to operate and worked great for producing heavy pilots?

This whole thing is the perfect example of the initial horrible-idea-fairly is long gone by the time the disaster outcomes of their shit ideas come to full fruition. And then the current recipients of said shit have to pretend like none of this could have been foreseen. Classic GO level performance.

Don’t worry though, they’re going to phase out the T-6 and use civilian flight schools instead. Good thing there isn’t excessive demand already for civilian flight training. The 250 hour CFI pyramid scheme is going to do great things for future AF pilot quality!

True but he was saying it was cheaper and still working at the time the Bobs fixed the glitch. I would add that the 38 fleet is old and not getting any younger, the T-1 came about to give breathing room to the the 38 program. Killing it was not going to make anything better.
Divesting the T-1 before the 38 was replaced or in the process of being replaced was utterly penny and pound foolish.
It amazes me how incompetent the AF has become of late, while it was not an insignificant cost but not an onerous one for sure, divesting the only multi-engine training aircraft you have was not going to make anywhere near enough money to fix other problems. Divesting it also was not going to radically increase production of students who met the time tested minimum requirements to then wing and send to FTUs.
