Not just pilots, people here in NW Florida all worked up the other night about a "special military exercise with 40+ airplanes flying fast down the beach at high altitude.

More people are coalescing around this theory. This guy is a commercial drone manufacturer.

"The only reason to fly a drone around at night is if you're looking for something."

It makes sense that our authorities seem to be not taking action because they know the drones are ours and do not post a threat.

What's the greater risk?

- Allowing the public to freak out a little over their unexplained presence in the sky

- Truthfully explaining the underlying reason for their presence, and perhaps causing an even greater panic

They aren't. It looks that way when you catch two different intersecting orbits that illuminate and extinguish at the intersection point. I've seen it and it's completely trippy, but the giveaway is usually that it's repeating, which makes sense because the satellites are evenly spaced in their orbits. 

 

It doesn't take a lot of mental horsepower to debunk the "conspiracy." Alien spaceships have no need for headlights. And secret government programs that have functional anti-gravity propulsion systems aren't going to leave the nav lights on while they do donuts over population centers for fun.

You got the first part right…what some of us see is not Starlink. What we do see defies conventional capabilities. EXTREMELY apparent that it’s non-linear motion. I know you are well-read and think you have this all figured out, but I was flying a Space Force orbital warfare officer who saw what we saw…that individual was just as baffled. Not saying this person knows it all, but if they didn’t know then maybe things exist out there that actually require ‘a lot of mental horsepower.’

Acquiring, let alone handling to flying a gamma ray souce would result in some serious radiation sickness to someone doing that without containment.  Containers for such are heavy and maybe out of drone capabilities.  That doesn't mean someone won't try to steal a source and try to fly it, but it's not as easy as people think.

I don't believe the postulated theory is threat is a actor trying to trying to fly a gamma source in.  More likely the fear is DNI/FBI/HS beleive an unaccounted for weapon (or material), has been smuggled into the US there is an ongoing search for said item.

It is widely known that NYC, Washington DC, borders and some other major cities are protected by ground based gamma detectors.   The fear for NYC has always been that an actor could exploit the waterways and bring one in on a ship.  The activity in NJ makes some sense as it is across the Hudson from NYC.  If there is a weapon on the ground it is likely heavily shielded and traditional wide search sensors on aircraft might not be as effective.  Searching with UAVs at night at much lower altitudes could be an effective/efficient way to methodically search.

DOE has been using UAVs to monitor disposal/storage sites for years.

Something is going on...I hope this is all tin foil hat stuff although I would not be anywhere near Times Square on New Years eye.

That's what I'm thinking, a search.  I saw above a pic that had tweet words that alluded to arming a drome with a gamma source.

Might as well say what is going on and why.  If it is a search, bad dudes probably figured out they're being hunted. Some John Q might have seen something.
