If you keep touching the stove when it’s on you’ll keep getting burned

Frankly I’m glad Boeing won over LM - we all hated LM’s. Timeline and programmatic fuckery will happen with either company anyways. 10-15 years before that thing is combat capable - sad, but I don’t think I’ll be proven wrong unless some serious changes are made to our acquisitions process.

What is the problem with LM’s proposal?

From the ‘tube so caveat emptor but some initial thoughts that are probably in the ballpark of truth…
Very stealthy
Focused on itself being air to air / tactical C2
Very long ranged
Not built to last for super long time, 20 years then on to next gen

This has to be the way forward with rapid innovation. Making one really good platform and resting on our laurels only works under certain geopolitical situations. In the realm of F aircraft: As awesome as Raptor is, thinking it will be the only high end fighter we need for 30+ years was a weakness, especially after the Gates debacle.

......just when you think the narcissism and cult-like worship couldn't possibly get any more ridiculous.

If it does turn out to totally fail to deliver on its promises, at least it'll live up to its namesake.

Concur

I wish this could spread to other requirements/acquisitions

Good enough is good enough, good enough plus quickly delivered at a reasonable cost is great.

Alright here’s the 69 billion dollar question… do you divest the Raptors to get the money to buy the -47?
Handling the interim risk with 15EX and 35

Don’t give them ideas
