WeMeantWell Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Just kidding: https://www.dailypres...0,2376589.story The pilots, members of the Virginia Air National Guard, now feel more comfortable about flying because the Air Force recently removed a charcoal filter which had been installed as a hedge against oxygen contamination, "They have both advised the Guard since these filters have come off that they are prepared to go fly the F-22," Morgan said. "This was never about the F-22 being a bad airplane." That said, both pilots believe that fixes are urgently needed. While they are willing to return to the cockpit, the risk of a dangerous hypoxia event remains very real. nothing to see here, move along...
Danny Noonin Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Is the Raptor problem actually related to the system itself or is it the fact that they spend most of their time in the stratosphere that the system just can't handle it? In other words, hypothetically if they put the T-6 system on the Raptor, would they still have issues due to the altitude? The craptor problems do not always happen at high altitudes or after having been at high altitudes, so it does not seem like that would have anything to do with this particular scandal.
LL Windshear Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 They gave him a LOR and convened a FEB because he wouldn't fly, due to unexplained hypoxia symptoms and the addition of a charcoal filter that made the problem worse? Way to take care of each other.
chim richalds Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 If the Raptor ends up being thrown to the bone-yard, this will be more embarrassing than Tonya Harding.
azrv3show Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 more embarrassing than Tonya Harding. Long-time lurker..first-time poster. I'll make my first one very uncontroversial. I always thought she was kinda hot.
HossHarris Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Long-time lurker..first-time poster. I'll make my first one very uncontroversial. I always thought she was kinda hot. In an 'ass like a dumptruck' west virginia sorta way ....
guineapigfury Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 If the Raptor ends up being thrown to the bone-yard, this will be more embarrassing than Tonya Harding. In this analogy, who is Nancy Kerrigan crying with a broken leg?
Guest Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 If the Raptor ends up being thrown to the bone-yard, NFW that's going to happen.
busdriver Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 Hopefully the shit storm ends up getting the problem resolved.
Breckey Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 What they failed to mention is that the LOR was for his out of regs mustache.
guineapigfury Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 What they failed to mention is that the LOR was for his out of regs mustache. I hope he frames it and hangs it on the wall of his office.
LL Windshear Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 In this analogy, who is Nancy Kerrigan crying with a broken leg? Lockheed Martin.
spaceman Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I hope he frames it and hangs it on the wall of his office. Like this? Oh wait you meant he should frame the LOR?! 1
Steve Davies Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 If they're protected by the Military Whistleblower covenant (or whatever it's called), and senior AF leaders have let it be know that they should not be punished, then how is it that the LOR and FEB came about?

Probably got punished before they went to the media and got declared as whistleblowers.
LL Windshear Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 What do they call that again? Oh yeah...back-pedaling.
Darth Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Have to ask "What would you do?" -- which my wife asked me after watching 60 min. Easy to armchair quarterback the whole thing when you ass is not the one in the seat. And having played red air for Raptor training a buch of times, it does what it is designed to do and does it well. Except, of course, that thing where it is trying to kill the pilots with the oxygen system. Not so good.
HuggyU2 Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 Have to ask "What would you do?" -- which my wife asked me after watching 60 min. So, what's the answer to the question?
BitteEinBit Posted May 12, 2012 Posted May 12, 2012 So, what's the answer to the question? Two chicks at the same time.... 1
youngpj Posted May 13, 2012 Posted May 13, 2012 So, what's the answer to the question? Fly the aircraft, not run to ABC who will wring you dry without remorse.
Pitt4401 Posted May 14, 2012 Posted May 14, 2012 Fly the aircraft, not run to ABC who will wring you dry without remorse. Disagree. I think these guys did it by the book (Congressional top cover, professional interview, mature discussion of their concerns). Not the Air Force "by-the-book" method. But then, you might want to ask some folks in Dover how it went for them when they trusted Senior leadership to do the right thing.
