Cooter Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 From BBC News A Nato aircraft has crashed in the southern Afghan province of Kandahar, a Nato spokesman has said. It was not immediately clear whether there were any casualties. The crash was not the result of enemy fire and the plane which was supporting a Nato mission in the area was not a fighter jet, Maj Scott Lundy said. Nato forces are at the scene but there is no word on how many people were on board. A large Canadian contingent is based in Kandahar province. To the fallen Cooter [ 02. F-15E WSO Posted September 2, 2006 Posted September 2, 2006 Cheers boys. Thanks for the effort. I'm extremely bummed that we've lost another jet in such a short period. Godspeed!
F-15E WSO Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 From: https://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006410086,00.html The Nimrod was just three minutes from safety when it was brought down by a catastrophic on-board fire. The pilot battled to land on an airstrip before the £50million jet ditched in a massive fireball. Shaken air traffic controllers heard the desperate last 60 seconds over the radio as the crew broadcast a series of harrowing Mayday calls. The RAF’s Nimrod fleet is grounded pending an inquiry. Chilling details of the plane’s final moments emerged as a probe began. Fire warning detectors went off at the cruising altitude of 25,000ft and the plane plunged in a desperate dive for safety. But the pilot lost his fight to land as fire engulfed the fuselage, disabling the controls. The jet crashed in the village of Chalaghor — just miles from Kandahar Airbase’s western perimeter fence.
Ram Posted September 5, 2006 Posted September 5, 2006 Damn...that's one helluva way to go out. ...but still better than dying in your sleep. Godspeed to the crew.
