Guest Wxpunk Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Repetition is annoying: If someone opens a "Rant Switch - On" thread, that doesn't mean everyone needs to turn on and off rants for the next week. If someone posts "push it up" although it’s a cute and original way of describing partying, but we don't need to celebrate it by substituting it for every time we drink. If someone posts "just my .02" again, that's an original way of saying "just my two cents"; but don't feel like you have to use .02 from here on out. There are a million terms and phrases, like these, that are original and catchy. Please realize that just because you don’t use them right away, they’re not forever lost. Be original or be ordinary, but don't mimic. Have a nice day! ------------ Wxpunk
duece123 Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 hey wxpunk, "Rant switch on".....you get pissed off about stupid little things...."just my .02", ok im done ........."rant switch off".......now since its friday I am going to go"push it up" what do you think of that?
Scooter14 Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Wxpunk, I applaud you for your "outside the container" thinking. It can be a real "dog and pony show" with all these phrases being repeated by a "cast of thousands." I really got "a warm fuzzy" that this behavior will cease. I'm glad you "have the hammer" on this one.
Guest OldHercNav Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Repetition is annoying:I agree with you concerning posts. However, since you will someday be a Guard Nav, keep in mind that "repetition" in training is what makes us better at what we do, and more able to handle those TAC training flights after working a civilian job all day, week in and week out. Not to mention when the s*** really hits the fan. I have seen many saves due to "repetitive" training. Taken somewhat out of context, I agree. Just my ..... I won't finish the cliche'.
Guest Wxpunk Posted July 29, 2005 Posted July 29, 2005 Just something I thought was annoying. BTW, War Chicken's post was sarcastically correct, but Scooter missed my point. It's when five other posts in the same thread have the same phrases that it irks me. Cliché phrases are "fine and dandy" provided they aren't repeated over and over. Herc, I completely agree with the training method. ------------ Wxpunk
Scooter14 Posted July 30, 2005 Posted July 30, 2005 Actually, WX, these are the phrases I heard over and over again in AETC and on Active Duty that, much like the phrases you mentioned, are as old and tired as that song "Ordinary, Average Guy" by Joe Walsh. I'm sure it was fresh and original a long time ago, but now "My Maserati does 185, I lost my license now I don't drive" is just gay.
DC Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 "Repetition is annoying" Irony at its best. wxpunk, I have tons of respect for ya- but this just adds to the pile of complaint posts that have popped up here lately. I definately don't disagree with you, but it made me chuckle a bit. Whoever posted the idea of a trash forum to be added so the conversation in here and in some of the other areas can remain civilized was on to something. As it stands right now, the Aviation Medicine forum is the most professional despite the fact that its the same 5 questions being asked over and over.
Vetter Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 At PIT, a buddy and I compiled a list of every gay cliches that the instructors used on a regular basis. We carried the list on us at all times so we could add to it. At the end, I think we had upward of 100 cliches that we prohibited ourselves from using. Some of them are... Go ugly early Bigger than Dallas Good to go Push it up Sounds like a plan Standard (I know there is a time to use standard) Alone, unarmed, and unafraid These are the only ones I can remember in my sleep deprived state right now. I go try to find the list...in the meantime, feel free to add.

Guest SnakeT38 Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 If you are a "fighter" guy, "Standard" and "Push it up" will NEVER go away. If you are a C-130 guy, "Go ugly early" will NEVER go away as long as Loadmaster's are on the airplane............probably same for tankers and boomers. Tanker guys and weather dudes use the "phrase" "alone, unarmed and unafraid", don't look for them to quit. I think UPT students use "good to go", I didn't but, things HAVE CHANGED. Bigger than Dallas will soon be, Bigger than Ft Worth. things have
Vetter Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 During one formation brief, I tried to use every cliche possible while my buddy tried to mark them off the list keeping a straight face. I got more than 3/4 of them. It thoroughly pissed off our homo Eagle driver IPs when I would start laughing each time after I said one on the list. During the debrief, they launched into how unprofessional it was to insert humor into a briefing...wow, how did this change into a "most Eagle drivers are huge fags" post...I apologize, back on topic.
Guest Xtndr50boom Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Snake, I've never used, nor have I heard anyone use, the phrases "Go ugly early" or "alone, unarmed, and unafraid". Both phrases are supremely . Maybe higher standards in my old unit I guess. The only ones I can remember the majority use are the "standard" NKAWTG, and the occasional "10 boomers satisfy our chicks without wearing a strap-on".

Perhaps my "research" facilities differ from yours.
Toro Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Originally posted by Vetter: At PIT, a buddy and I compiled a list of every gay cliches that the instructors used on a regular basis.I think you'll be largely offended by the fighter community. Better steer clear.
Guest Xtndr50boom Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Originally posted by SnakeT38: Perhaps my "research" facilities differ from yours. How could I be dense enough to not understand your original post? Ok, yes. I've heard those on occasion, I still think they're though. My favs are "more cushion for the pushin", "It's all pink on the inside", "she's 15 going on 35", and "if there's grass on the field play ball, if not: play in the mud"
Toro Posted August 3, 2005 Posted August 3, 2005 Originally posted by Vetter: Toro, weren't you a T-38 FAIP? Yeah, but I think I must be one of the few who didn't mind PIT. My instructors there were very cool, very big picture. They actually liked that I was a FAIP because they could proficiency advance me through about 1/4 of my rides. Pretty much a six week paid vacation to San Antonio. All I was getting at is that most of those terms are fairly common place in the fighter community - if they bug you now, they're really going to be annoying you 6-9 years from now.
Vetter Posted August 4, 2005 Posted August 4, 2005 They don't bug me, they are just funny to hear over and over and over in a brief. When did you go through PIT?
