Guest Desi1125 Posted July 31, 2007 Posted July 31, 2007 That is funny! I attached 07-10s, not sure if it worked.
Guest AFwife62406 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I just searched through 22 pages of topics and didn't see any pertaining to graduation at Vance. I have a few questions. I keep seeing it called "graduation week". Are there events happening all week, or is it just Thursday and Friday? What exactly is Red Carpet night, and is this part of graduation? How many people are you allowed to invite to graduation, specifically the dinner? (TWELVE of my husbands family members have already invited themselves....) Is it possible to pay a certain amount per extra person, and if so, how much is that usually? Thanks!
brabus Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 I think the dinner is 20-30 bucks a person, depending on drink/food choice. So, it doesn't matter if you have 2 coming or 15 coming, either way you pay per plate. I don't know if there's a max you can bring, but I've heard of some studs having like 20 people come. There's the "red carpet" sims on Thu afternoon/Fri morning/early afternoon so family/friends can fly around a bit and people usually show their families the squadron, the jet they flew, etc. I'm pretty sure all of this is alloted during Thu/Fri, w/ most of the sim times on Fri (I think). That's about as much as I can tell you at this point for Vance.
JeepGuyC17 Posted September 11, 2007 Posted September 11, 2007 (edited) Graduation is typically a two day thing. On Thursday (red carpet day) The families usually gather in the squadron for some snacks and a speech by the squadron commander. Then everyone is released to go do red carpet activities if they wish. The sim instructors allot a certain time period for the class to take their families on a sim ride- how this time is allotted and scheduled for each student will be up to the class. For mine, I think each student got about an hour and 15 minutes in the sim with their family. There will also be buses available to take families to RAPCON (the approach radar control facility) and the control tower for tours. There are also airplanes set up out on the flightline to get up close to and take pictures with etc. That about covers red carpet day. On friday, graduation is held in the morning and lasts about an hour. That night is the graduation dinner in the club. How many people each student is allowed to bring and how much it costs per person all depends on what kind of deal your husband's class works out with the club and how much money they raise in dues/fundraising. I think when my class did it, each student got their meal and their spouses meal paid for out of the class' funds and for each additional guest we paid a certain amount out of pocket. I wasn't too involved in the graduation dinner planning process, so I don't have a whole lot of details on how that worked, but hopefully this helps a little. Edited September 11, 2007 by JeepGuyC17

Most of the Red Carpet stuff has been covered. As far as the number of people, there generally is no limit as long as he has an accurate cranium count that he can give the club. While I was an IP at Columbus, they actually had an award given out to the student who had the largest number of visitors at the graduation.
Guest galadriel7474 Posted September 19, 2007 Posted September 19, 2007 Are babies allowed at the "red carpet" events? I know children are always welcome at these type of events at our current squadron, but different bases do different things... Thanks!

Depending on where you are though, you just might have to be prepared to take him outside if he starts crying (Radar control room or control tower, for obvious reasons)

Realize that the control tower has an elevator up to the floor just prior to the tower, then it's an extremely steep set of stairs to actually get up into the tower.
The Kayla Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 For spouses: What did you wear that night of Graduation? I have heard that people will wear everything from Sunday best (Which, is a bad example to use, since some people do go to church in Jeans and a button down shirt.. and somehow I doubt that would go over very well...) to formal, prom, bridesmiad's dresses. I am rather confused as to what to wear. I want to look nice.. When I went to the T1 spouse meeting, a good food for thought was this: Flight Suit: You wear casual. Blues: You wear business casual. Mess Dress: You weaar formal. and yet I hear "You can wear the 'little black dress'" and that just doesn't seem dressy enough??!?!?!?! TIA
Guest lovemyflyboy Posted September 9, 2008 Posted September 9, 2008 Hey Kayla~ Most of the people at our graduation wore long, formal gowns to the graduation dinner. You're definitely not going to be over-dressed if you go that route. There were a few spouses that wore shorter dresses to the dinner, but most were in long gowns. For the graduation ceremony, that was a little more "casual". Lots of spouses wore dress pants and skirts, and a few people wore dresses, but they were knee-length. Hope that helps!
