Guest gotmyslot Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Look at this guys https://www.sky.com/skynews/picture_gallery...10748-1,00.html You'd think these guys would watch wear they are going over in England
Chuck17 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 RVSM - Reduced Vertical Separation Minimums... they only need to be 1000' apart and thats a 777 and an A300... big difference in size. I bet they ARE 1000' apart, but you cant tell it from the ground. Wait till you pass a 747 head-on on the same airway with over 800 knots closure only 1000' above you over Turkey... they look a lot closer! Chuck
Steve Davies Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 You'd have thought these news agencies would consult their photogs about the optical illusions caused by telephoto lenses/increased focal length. Oh, wait a minute, if they did that they'd have no sensationalist stories to print/broadcast. Tst. [ 30. January 2006, 12:07: Message edited by: Steve Davies ]
Guest the_keenanite Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 RVSM is from 290 to 410, do you think that the camera's resolution was that good?
Chuck17 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Who knows... just know that I've passed overhead of airliners by 1000' while inbound to EDDF on more than one occasion (and I was well below FL290) Could'a been taken from another airplane even... Chuck
GW Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 I'm with Chuck and Steve on this one. It's impossible to tell how close two aircraft are from each other without some frame of reference. That's why everyone gets so excited when the T-chickens, the Blues and the Snow Birds (we had them in Quonset last summer, they rock) do opposing passes. It looks cool, but just about everyone knows they're a good distance away from each other. GW edit: kant spel [ 30. January 2006, 12:39: Message edited by: GW ]
Guest cbire880 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 If you are below RVSM altitudes, it was already 1k vertical.
M2 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 Discussed to death on PPRuNe here and here. Get the 'Paul Harvey' from the replies, no reported near miss so it is all an optical/photgraphic illusion and/or tabloid sensationalism... Cheers! M2
M2 Posted January 30, 2006 Posted January 30, 2006 By the way, do you really think these two guys were as close as they appeared?? Cheers! M2
