Herk Driver Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 Yep, yet another weak excuse. You know I hear that AAFES doesn't advertise and they refuse to sell tobacco these days too.
Guest Pilot Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 should you really post someone's personal contact info on here, regardless of what he said?
Guest Jpilot Posted August 16, 2006 Posted August 16, 2006 He did say... Originally posted by Baseops.Net: Request this information be placed on your web site to inform all users and providers of the risks they take by accessing your web site. email: john.gillis@randolph.af.mil
Baseops.Net Posted August 17, 2006 Author Posted August 17, 2006 Well, there AFI/policy only allowed them to block sites that included pornography, sites that were damaging to the AF, etc, so they either had to revise the policy or let us have access. I think it just became too much @ss pain for them and they capitulated. Once we talked to a supervisor at the Senior NCO level, they started to question the validity for blocking the site in the first place. Their argument centered around the fact that the finance section told people how to defraud the government. I think most people would agree that this section actually just helps people get paid what is coming to them. It addresses issues that most people know nothing about and keeps finance from hosing you.I remember that fight with USAFE! My squadron was deployd to two AORs at the same time -- Germany (for Bosnia Airlift) and Seeb, Oman (Southern Watch). Suddenly the crew dogs at Delta Squadron couldn't access the baseops.net website for any flight planning (go figure, people actually flight plan prior to a sortie...) Yes - the reason was some Shoe Clerk raised stink accusing the website of endorsing servicemembers "defraud" the government on travel vouchers. What a crock! I would never, in my life, advocate anyone defraud the government -- all I was posting was information on how to get all that the government actually OWES YOU! I decided to document years of finance errors, voucher problems, and lessons learned -- all with specific references to the JFTR, AND backed up by a SNCO that worked in finance and verified it for me (and was a part-time moderator on the fourm). With enough complaints and protests from the loyal crew dogs, the comm nazis reversed their decision -- PEOPLE POWER! On another note - I find it interesting that they have blocked baseops.net at CBM -- if anything they should block the useless AF Portal from ALL military bases!
Batman Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 This is probably as good a time as any to say "thank you!" to BaseOps.Net and his moderators for a great resource they provide us with this website. Thanks again. Batman [ 16. August 2006, 20:36: Message edited by: Batman ]
JVBFLY Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Ditto! Thanks BASEOPS, you run the finest "crew lounge".
JVBFLY Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 BTW, I called Mr. Gillis today. He works in "Aircrew Training" and sounds like a very serious individual. Perhaps some of our navling to be's can stop by and wish him a fine day. And heck, remind him he gets paid the same as a civilian whether he polices our lounge or not.
JVBFLY Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 And if you get his picture to post here...well, we will think of a great prize for you!

Going after this douche nozzle is great way to get a vengeful shoe clerk to actually come after this site. Granted he won't have much to go on as Baseops.net fights off more of this crap than you think. But seriously, don't start calling and emailing this dude. The forum mafia is strong and Baseops.net will let you know when that time has come. HD [ 16. August 2006, 23:06: Message edited by: HerkDerka ]
Guest KoolKat Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Well...hmmm. IMHO, if you have to cut & paste the title of an AFI or other reg, becuase you insist that the person reading your thoughts can't infer that you are referencing the same document that you just took the time to write out the title of not but one or two sentences previously, in the same paragraph, you really are a weenie (A3, A6...whatever you alphanumeric weenie code is) that has little to offer in the way of mission accomplishment, IMHO. Call Mr. Gillis? I think not. I'd rather call my mother, she wouldn't quote the same AFI title twice to me in the same breath...she has some respect! BENDY
Guest elroy Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Don't worry - Force Shaping just opened up for Navs...I don't need to give them a reason to snap. Besides, I don't want to piss him off. He will just go home, sit in his underwear watching the discovery channel, drink himself into a stupor, and kick one of his 5 cats.
Stiffler Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I am gonna email him, and let him know that as a real pilot, whenever I am in a strange Baseops, I use baseops.net for my weather, notams, etc. Geesh, I dont even remember the direct website for notams. All I know is baseops.net, and same with everyone else in my Guard unit (that is fairly SNAP free) I would suggest the Guard to all non-SNAP types. Kinz

I was wondering the exact same thing about AF Portal. It takes me to my yahoo mail, which is kind of cool, but ultimately pointless. Maybe I should read the letter from the SECAF. Maybe tomorrow. I, too, would like to extend a Laurel and Hardy handshake to Baseops.net. Without this site, I might actually have to work. Or play solitaire.
Stiffler Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Just sent this letter to our friend: As a real pilot in the military, I use Baseops.net everytime i am in a strange location for weather and Notams. It is an awesome resource, and I would suggest spending your spare (or government time) on things that pertain to your job and life, not ours. Relax dude. Life is too short to get spun up about meaningless, little things. There is a war after all. Adam
Steve Davies Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 I get all my super-secret-squirrel unclassified-classified info on the T-6 Texan II from BaseOps.Net. Plus, I know it's all kosher since the site is so obviously an official Air Force tool. Thanks, BaseOps.net!
Spinner Posted August 17, 2006 Posted August 17, 2006 Muchas gracias BaseOps.net! Also, I think that our prayers have been answered, AETC civilian force shaping... AETC Civilian Force Shaping Maybe his authorization will be taken away, we can only hope...

Baseops.Net Posted August 18, 2006 Author Posted August 18, 2006 Folks, Please don't send this fella and hate emails or nasty phone calls, etc. All I can see is this doing us harm. There is absolutely no way to reason with people like this and no way to pull them out of their sheltered shoe-clerk fantasy lands -- so just let them go by the wayside. Thanks for all your support!
Guest samsdog Posted August 18, 2006 Posted August 18, 2006 I'm tdy down here... I can put a bag of flaming cat/dog crap on his doorstep? He'll get his, in the long run. Cheers!
