Guest hermair52 Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 My IP approached me today about going to Vegas for cross country. I'm hoping to get him to fly into McCarren and stay on or near the strip. Does anyone know of any great deals in vegas for lodging. The last thing I want to do is stay at Nellis.
Guest lovelacm Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 I stayed at the Luxor on my Student XC with VT-31 at Corpus.. Good times... stopped into El Paso then low approach at Grand Canyon... then on to Vegas. Stopped here at ABQ and College Station, TX on way back to Corpus. If I remember correctly, the IPs wanted to go there and called ahead... seemed they had some sort of business card or something that got us a military rate. Of course, this was back in late '01. Have a great time, and enjoy! Cheers! Linda
Techsan Posted November 22, 2005 Posted November 22, 2005 We stayed at Nellis when I went cross country back in T-1s. It wasn't all that bad. We took a total of 4 jets from Laughlin that weekend. We procured a mid-80s model 15 pack blue steely from the motorpool. Not the coolest thing to be cruising the strip in, but free nonetheless. Flying into LAS would be much better than Nellis, seeing that Signature (gov't contract) is right on the strip. Always good to get a little class B experience on cross countries anyways. Have fun!!
Guest blkafnav _no_more Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 I'll be in Nellis 12-17 Mar and Scottsdale 17-26 Mar. Need good bar advice ASAP.
Bluto Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 I always enjoyed Nine Fine Irishmen in New York New York in Vegas. There are several bars/clubs around 2nd St & N Scottsdale Rd. I remember The Blue Moose being a decent sports bar. Like I said there are several in that area so you should have no problem finding something you like. There are some hotels right in that area which will put you in stumbling distance to everything.
abmwaldo Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Another vote for Nine Fine Irishmen.... there's an English place that the name escapes me kinda off the beaten path. Has plenty of good beer, a pool table and isn't crowded.
Bluto Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Yeah I think I know the one you're talking about. I believe it's a little farther east down on Tropicana past the strip. It was a pretty cool place.
Cooter Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 '3' on Nine Fine Irishman...great place, no better place to hoist some brews with the bros. Also there's a burger place called Big Dog's (Go out south gate and turn left, it's about 8 miles down on the right) that has gigantic burgers and to boot it's a microbrewery. Cooter
Beaver Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Are you looking for strange? Cause there's better places for that than 9 Fine Irishmen.
Guest gunnercalvin Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 The English place you're talking about might be The Crown and Anchor. It's got about 30ish different beers there, not a bad place at all. -Gunnercalvin

Guest JorryFright21 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Anyone in Vegas, or recently lived there? I'm trying to find out who the good internet providers are out there, and what they cost. I know I could probably do the whole Yellow Pages thing, but I figured I'd just ask here and get it from someone who liked/disliked the service. Oh yeah, I searched.

I used Cox when I was there last, and will again when I PCS back in a month. I don't know what the cost is now, but 5mb/sec internet + expanded basic cable used to be about $100/month if I remember correctly. If you're going to the 66th, I'll see you there. Guest KM Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Um, you're in Vegas. You can quit surfing the porn and go see the live show
Guest JorryFright21 Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 Thanks guys! Anyone not have TV, but just internet? My wife and I try to stay away from TV simply because I won't do anything else if I have a lot of TV channels to choose from. Ikarus, Where you coming from, schoolhouse or another unit? I'll see ya there.
Ill Destructor Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 I lived in Vegas for almost 18 years. As long as I can remember, my family went with Cox and never had a problem. There are a number of wireless broadband providers, but nothing compares to Cox's speed and reliability.

Aren't choices of cable service limited in most communities? i.e. Cox or Mediacom have sole rights to all cable service in a town, county etc? And DSL is provided by the local phone companies so while there is a choice of cable or DSL...it's not much of a choice...you have to take what there is, packaged in whatever deals you like...or more likely, packages you don't like! HossHarris Posted June 21, 2008 Posted June 21, 2008 Start your drinking at ELLIS ISLAND. It's in a shithole little casino behind Bally's, but they have their own brewery and serve good beer CHEAP. Don't gamble there.

Don't gamble there. The nightly karaoke there always brings some ladies that are dying to show off Actually, the most fiscally responsible way to drink here is Fat Tuesdays. Go get the 32oz 190 Octane w/ an extra shot and get the take home plastic jug...then the refill is cheaper, anyway, for about 22 bucks, I guarantee you will be enjoying Vegas the way it was meant to after the second drink.
Guest Tango Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Im heading to Las Vegas for New Years, and thought this would be the best place to ask these questions. Where are some good places to go, places to party, things to see, things to do, people to meet etc?? Bare in mind Im not from the US, and only have 2 weeks in Vegas, so want some names of pubs/clubs that will rock my world! I did search, but didnt find anything that answered all my questions. Thanks in advance for any advice/info.
M2 Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Dude, it's Vegas! The question isn't what you can do, it's more what you can't; and there's not that much that you can't do! You'll know what I am talking about when you get there; but don't plan on getting any sleep during your stay... Cheers! M2
Guest Tango Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Thanks M2, I have heard about the no sleep thing. Sleeps over rated anyway...any good bars with decent people or what not that I should go to? I dont really want to end up in some ass sucking shit house so can anyone give me names of places to aviod?!
war007afa Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 I'd avoid Coyote Ugly. It was a novel idea and sounds great to "go to that bar they made the movie about", but all I ended up with was a wet shirt, warm beer, and a hatred for the women that worked there. Great beer in New York New York (and on another note, the only place I was propositioned by a prostitute, hmmm....). I loved it in the Belagio, T.I., and the Venetian. We stayed a night in the Paris and got hammer-drunk (fun place). All of these places are on the strip, so if you don't like it, you just walk next door. Makes for a great non-stop day.
HossHarris Posted March 31, 2009 Posted March 31, 2009 Do some pre-drinking at Ellis Island (behind Balleys, off the strip). They brew their own and it's dirt cheap decent beer. Don't gamble there.
drewpey Posted April 1, 2009 Posted April 1, 2009 a good aviator never forgets his checklist... LustGluttonyGreedSlothWrathEnvyPride start at Sapphires...you can knock most of them out there...
