The Question: Are you an Officer or a Pilot?

We've learned to say "NO, that question sucks...I'm a leader."

You want to get promoted be a leader: be so good at your primary, secondary and additional job (whatever you do) that dudes under you and above you ask you the hard questions and verify information with you, only do things you WANT to do and then be extremely good at them, be such a good person to everyone you come in contact with that they want to be around you again because they know how good of an influence you are on them, most importantly SERVE others. After you get those fundamentals down, then go about the business of asking yourself the hard questions...do I care enough about the future of my country to put aside my hatred of what I am about to do in order to remain relevant in this climate. And yes, though it hurts me to say it...that might mean being an exec or doing a masters degree...do something to be given a DP. Finally, don't ever think you've earned it or are better than your bros...luck and timing make up about 69% of everything related to promotion.

Curious (Got a bro that was passed over)... Any thoughts on when the APZ is going to be for '04s if the '05 board is pushed back?

Should be at the same time as the '05 guys board. If I understand the process correctly the APZ guys roll into competition with the next younger peer group versus having an APZ board of their own. If you are talking about the supplemental board for identifying any potential mistakes on the board he was passed over on that should be later this year.

How does he know? Was your Wg/CC on the promotion board? Or did the senior leaders get some kind of out brief from the board that gave them the cliff notes of how the board operated?

He's a reliable source. The board members cannot talk about specific details of the board but they are allowed to pass lessons learned and takeaways.

I just heard that LAF Captain promotion boards are going away effective immediately (the upcoming July board will be canx). It looks like we're back to 100% of fully qualified selection opportunities and away from all that crazy Lt PRF BS.

Sanity prevails! Unit CCs will have the ability to dish out non-selects.

Not a rumor--confirmed.

There's still a promotion board (or administrative process which "boards" records), just no PRF required. Those passed over once will meet the next central selection board, whenever that is.

Anyone passed over on the first board is still passed over and will meet the next CSB, whenever that is. You won't get a retroactive promotion outside of Congress intervening or an AFBCMR ruling which allows you to meet a special selection board. To get an AFBCMR ruling you (as an individual) would need to apply and show that you were a victim of an injustice, presenting evidence that the first CSB should have seen but did not, such as a missing OPR or decoration. If the AFBCMR agrees with your position they will give direct that you meet an SSB and if that SSB promotes you it would be retroactive.

SUBJECT: Elimination of Captain Line of the Air Force (LAF) Central

Selection Boards (CSBs)

1. SAF/OS has approved a change to the current promotion procedure for the

Capt LAF Central Selection Board. The Air Force will no longer have a

central selection board for Captains and return to the promotion process

using a "fully qualified" 100% promotion opportunity. This is effective

immediately and the CY13 Capt LAF CSB currently scheduled for 15-26 July

2013 will not convene. All those eligible for promotion in CY13 will be

considered for promotion in June 2013 by simply using the same process

currently used for the quarterly non-line captain process, outlined in PSDM

12-83. Starting in CY 2014, those eligible for promotion will be considered

on a quarterly basis using this same process (as was done from 2003-2010).

Specific instructions will flow from APFC to local MPSs in AFPROMS.

2. POC is AFPC/DPSOO at AFPC.DPPPO2@US.AF.MIL

Right, which is the administrative process in lieu of a formal board.

I've never heard anyone say there would not be a "process". I simply posted that to correct your assertion that there would be ongoing CSBs.

So Does Welch Gen Mark A. Welsh III get credit for this or are we going to shit all over him still for not doing anything good?

Also... the board process for O3 was so much fun. If it was good enough for me, it's good enough for the up-and-comers - just like AAD as a Lt, and SOS-in-res. :banghead:

EDIT: For grapejuice

Who is Welch? A grape juice maker? It's probably important to know the CSAF's name, and Welch ain't it.

Curious - what happens to those that were passed over for Captain in FY12...Yes, that's right, passed over as a pilot for CAPTAIN. No problems with the law, DUIs, or negative paper work. I would normally be pinning on in September 2013, but since I was passed over I was waiting on this years board. There was a group of us who had blank PRFs submitted to the board last year (while deployed). Are we still pretty much SOL? Or will I receive an apology and a promotion, and pin on in Sept '13? Haha, yeah.....sure....

I'm actually working this situation right now. Of course, no one at MPF or AFPC can pull their head out of their ass and give me an answer. Fuktards...
