I would take that non-continuation letter, frame it in carbonite, send copies to an attorney, the Washington Post, and an unnamed trusted agent in case I were to befall "an unfortunate event", and demand my separation pay under threat of contacting all 535 congresscritters.

Their fuckup.  They own it.  #PayUp

This is the best. I hope someone (everyone) does this.

Simply incredible.
Reminds me of the movie "Inception". With that letter, the Air Force created an idea, even in the minds of people who might have stayed in, that "The AF is done with me and I am done with the AF."
I wonder how many came to accept that idea before the reversal.

Having survived through cuts beginning back in 2006...I think a lot of folks have been keeping "options" warmed up on the back burner. An officer would have to be pretty thick-skulled and naive to not be ready with an alternative or two in regard to their service in the AF.

Apparently this was a blood path for rated eligibles in many bases...wtf.  Is this some big conspiracy to force people out who might have stayed thus fluffing their arguement for stop loss?!

If you have been passed over, get the F out and find something else.  It's like holding on to a high school girlfriend that breaks up with you when you go to college, its all good in the end.

Looked like 122 BTZ, all selects; 59 I/APZ selects out of 1101 I/APZ promotes. Feels like we're short on pilot Generals, not just pilots.

Gotta get them to that pole year,
Bendy

So, just saw elsewhere that the overall rate to Lt Col was 72.1%. (unofficial, of course).  But what was disheartening to me, personally, was that the rate for 12B was about 50% (56% for B-52, 47% for B-1).  This, despite the fact that every B-52 and B-1 squadron is short more 12Bs than 11Bs.

I guess they're already starting to phase us out for the B-21.

At least one non-rated select on the list is toxic and unqualified.  Very disappointing.

Ah but I'm sure his records were pristine, that's apparently what matters.  I wonder why they don't incorporate a boarded interview for promotions (at least Lt Col and above.). Not saying the toxic wouldn't slip through the cracks but maybe then you could get a "whole" person view of the officer?

#1 strats down the left, expert volunteer even as an FGO.  I don't think an interview would have changed anything.  The pristine records were the results of checking the right boxes and having the right mentors.  Job knowledge and leadership not required.

Ops was out-promoted by support....I have no words.

How did you come to this conclusion?  There hasn't been anything posted to static reports yet.

Really shows which positions we value for promotion and how poorly DOING the mission counts. Poor CSO's and ABM's need to get planning more Xmas parties to compete with the 7:30-4:30 crowd.

Data point: 11M, patch, 11 years in ops squadrons, 1000+ combat hours, clean record, highly effective instructor, NATO staff.....not selected.

Any doubts on what the USAF values?

So Mission Support is promoted at higher percentages and actual numbers than Pilots while the total numbers of both groups meeting the board are within 1%. And even moreso than Ops as a whole.

This within days of the AF Chief of Staff holding national level meetings about his pilot retention "crisis".

There are no words to accurately convey the sheer stupidity of it all.

For any reasonably intelligent aviator sitting on the fence this should tell you ALL you need to know.

Get. Out. NOW!

This is interesting. P or DP? IDE? Negative marks on record?

P.  IDE (correspondence, but that's not supposed to matter says AF leadership...we all know the truth though). No negatives.

So how do you become the individual that is IDE complete w/ a DP and not get selected?

...by having a P

Geeezus...but have you planned an Xmas party?

This would be like Apple telling the engineers who design the next iPhone that they have a statistically worse shot at advancement than the person who line up food services or orders copy machine paper for the company.

I'm appalled. I've been telling pilots on the fence to stick around as things are improving. I'm thinking I might be out to f-cking lunch.
