Class number?

With the chance of sounding like a complete moron: What do the numbers mean after the Pilot/Nav training classes? (i.e. Class 0553) I know they signify what class you are in but do they actually have any meaning?

Typically 15 classes per FY at each UPT base, although someone was saying they axed a few in recent years.

8 classes per year at ENJJPT.

NASWF (and probably Corpus) classes are numbered by the first week (rather than graduation) and by calendar year (rather than fiscal year).

Are nav training classes numbered the same at Randolph? (06-04, the fourth class of fiscal year 2006)

Yeah,

same system. Classes start every three weeks. So, I started at the begining of March and will graduate in Dec, my class is 07-03. The one starting next is 07-04...so on and so on, etc., etc...
