spaceman Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 (edited) My wife found all these framed photos at Goodwill of all places. Good additions to the man cave! Each is about 18" wide. They each have a description written on the back too. Check it out: EDIT: Moved some of the pictures to a second post so they all show up. Edited October 19, 2012 by spaceman 1

Jughead Posted October 19, 2012 Posted October 19, 2012 Cool pics/good find. Seems like this one's mislabeled, though (sure looks like TF-33s on that KC-135"R"...).
Steve Davies Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Stumbled on this thread earlier in the week, has a lot of color photos of aircraft during the Korean War. An outstanding selection of photos. I thought that they represented a unique collection and that many were extremely rare in and of their own right. Then I saw this one: I don't think I have ever seen an unauthorised photo the Kimpo MiG-15 before now. Had heard they existed, but not in the public domain.
Sketch Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 If I may ask because I'm ignorant and uniformed, where there MIGs that actually defected to the south during the Korean war?
Learjetter Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 T6B Why is there a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer/pin installed while the aircraft is in flight (lower center left near canopy)? I went to UPT before the T6 was invented, but that's not normal, right?
KState_Poke22 Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Why is there a "REMOVE BEFORE FLIGHT" streamer/pin installed while the aircraft is in flight (lower center left near canopy)? I went to UPT before the T6 was invented, but that's not normal, right? It's the seat pin. There's a place to store it in the canopy handle.
BB Stacker Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 (edited) If I may ask because I'm ignorant and uniformed, where there MIGs that actually defected to the south during the Korean war? That's what the picture is of and the "Kimpo MiG" that Steve is referring to...the USAF had a program going at the time where they made it known that they were willing to pay $100,000 and grant political asylum to any pilot who defected with a MiG-15. That actually took place a few months after the Armistice was signed in '53, but it was a North Korean pilot who defected to the South (and first landed at Kimpo near Seoul, hence the "Kimpo MiG" moniker.) Edit: Although I should add that the North Korean pilot who defected was actually unaware of the program. Edited October 21, 2012 by BB Stacker

Thanks for the info and wow... I had no idea that any MIGs defected or that we even went as far as bribing their pilots.. incredible. Do you know if we did the same thing in Vietnam and received any MIG-17s, 19s, or 21s?
DEVIL Posted October 21, 2012 Posted October 21, 2012 Not a video but still a pretty hairy situation with a NATO awacs and a KC-135, supposedly people were hurt and they broke the jet, but still damnnnnn. https://content.bitsontherun.com/previews/OQNiaZt2-VZIT6mFc

Sketch Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Time for some older photos. Anyone remember when the ANG flew F-4C/Ds? ANG A-7s: Euro green A-10 (I wish they were still painted this way) More A-10s Disclaimer: Copyright David Brown; I did not take nor own any of these. 2
Right Seat Driver Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Damn! I grew up watching the MI ANG fly F-4s out of Selfridge. They have painted a tanker like they did their F-4s. One of them is full color and the other seven are subduded. The paint job goes back to the F-106 days. Pretty bad-ass. 1
Sketch Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 (edited) Very cool, looks like they're also paying homage to the old SAC -135 schemes with that stripe. Edited November 7, 2012 by Justanothercadet

kack911 Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 (edited) Anyone remember when the ANG flew F-4C/Ds? This 'DO' tail-coded jet was with the 89 TFS, 906 TFG at WPAFB, which unless I'm mistaken, was an AFRES unit. Edited November 8, 2012 by kack911
