False hope is literally the AF’s favorite management tool.  Without it, the Bobs might actually have to lead.

It’s really the only management tool

“Bust your ass and maybe you can get *insert desired assignment here*”

“Do this to make sure you don’t close any doors”

I quit that game years ago

T-6 FAIP drop to NAS Pensacola last night. Probably the best FAIP assignment in history. The real question is how will they compete on the tail end of their FAIP tour?

No idea about anything else.

Was there a Joint Spouse or something else influencing that decision?  Obviously, CSO IPs don't have the same instructional skill set...hell, the student doesn't even get to land the plane, much less get prepped to go fly a solo.  I'd hazard a guess that the PNAS location is a placeholder for Whiting field where UPT is at.

Regardless, yes...either way a FAIP assignment to Pensacola has to be the best thing going!

Nah. It was just tossed in there.

No way it’s a placeholder for Whiting. The AF hasn’t sent a student there in over 7 years

Nope, it’s something they have been working to have happen for a few years.

Yikes. Hopefully eligible only for CSO-carrying platforms. Strong incentive to do good and not be a douchecanoe.

I flew for 10 years without having a clue what made a good CSO in a war machine. Gonna be tough for that person to have a clue.

I Thought a prerequisite for that job was to be a terminal O-5 on a fini tour. They must’ve needed a snacko or something.

Well shit...now I feel old.  I've been stuck in the CENTCOM version of hell for a few years and missed that decision.

It's also a bummer, I enjoyed my time as a UPT stud there.

But they still send IPs there...

That’s shocking.

Not to many of us.
For a long time, UPT grads were FAIP'd to Nav Training back when it was done with the T-37. Worked fine.

Why does this seem to be a big deal?

Shocking because all I’ve heard over the last several years is pilot shortage and sending a FAIP outside of pilot production is surprising. Not outside the dudes skills or anything, just a production standpoint.

XPW is still a thing? Is Columbus not on the 2.5 syllabus for everyone?

Posted

Yeah, Columbus still has 4-5 legacy classes left

2.5 is all new classes

XPW class was either high performing ejection seat waiver (2)

or prior flight experience between 500-2000 hours

one or two more XPW classes may be a thing but not regularly scheduled

That makes sense. I'm heading there at the end of the month and start UPT in November. Figured I'd be doing the 2.5 syllabus.
