Are the Singapore pilots going to dual-qual in the F-15 and F-16? What does the slash mean?

Not dual qual...they don't know what they get yet. When they get back home they go through more training and go to either the 15 or 16

why did their countries send them through T-1s?  Seems a little odd.

The BAF Vice Chief of Staff is a huge proponent of UPT. A few yrs ago, I escorted him and his staff out to Randolph, Laughlin, and Little Rock to see first hand how we train. He was a big fan before, but even more so after the trip. And the bulk of their helos fall under the AF.

ok, so then why don't they train their helo pilots like the USAF trains?  AKA fixed wing then Rucker?

Good question and I don't have an answer for it. My guess is that it comes down to money. They didn't get many UPT slots-I believe that may be 3rd one I have heard of. I've been out of that game for a little bit now, so things may have changed as well.

The only reason the AF started making their rotor wing pilots in the early 90's go through fixed wing phase 2 was to get higher numbers going through Tweets, to make the case for more T-6's.  I think Hacker or someone discussed this years ago.  It's actually silly to make rotor wing pilots spend the first 5-6 months in T-6's, to then learn a completely different kind of flying for the remaining phase 3.

Then you agree it's silly for another country to send their helo pilots through a year of fixed wing first.

Of course, but it's their slot (and I'm pretty sure their money), so they can send whoever they want.

The Bulgarian student who got MI-17s is an Aviation Leadership Program student. The USAF asks and pays for countries to send students for pilot training. The ALP students go through an extended T-6 phase, but no advanced phase. It wasn't a waste for Bulgaria because it cost nothing to get a USAF trained product.

I have to agree. The saving grace is those dudes who develop the desire to live the helo low life during phase 2, and I speak from experience. A corrective action would be to add additional low level sorties to the phase 2 syllabus, 2 is not enough. It is appropriate considering the amount of airframes that fly low operationally.

What is the follow on for AT-38s? Also does anyone know what class is supposed to be dropping around the end of October at the other bases? I've heard a rumor that with the whole T-6 grounding shenanigans that occurred that the other bases washed back the classes that were suppose to drop in October except for Vance. Thanks for the help.

16-01 should drop around 9 Oct and then 16-02 drops around 30 Oct...I think it's 16-02 or 16-03 that's the ghost class

ETA: I was thinking grad dates originally, updated with drop dates

Almost 20% of the AD guys from T-1s are getting the MQ-9. (Assuming the last few drop reports here have been accurate). For those of you dreamers reading this post... Choose wisely.
